Ordering online can be very convenient for most people since you don’t have to take time out of your schedule in order to go out and buy things, or you don’t have to wait in long lines to pay for your items. Another benefit from ordering online is the pricing, which is usually cheaper than a brick & mortar store since there is no rent expenses.

The only downside when ordering online is the time in which you will receive your products and the fact that you cannot touch and feel the item you are purchasing. Most companies try to compete with watch other many different ways, but one of the most important ways that could separate 1 company from another is the speed in which the deliver carries out.

I myself am a very impatient person and sometimes prefer ordering from a brick & mortar store just because I don’t want to wait to receive something I want to buy. Not all people are like me though, most people would prefer to wait a few days or a week to receive their item at a cheaper price.

But the question remains, What is the maximum time a customer should wait for their package?

Lets look at it from the customer’s point of view. You order something online, most companies will offer you multiple shipping options from Ground 3-5 day Shipping, to a more faster method which will cost much more than the standard.

The average customer will naturally choose the cheaper one, after-all, they are buying online rather than in a brick & mortar store to save cost anyway. Most people know that standard shipping will usually be no more than a week to receive their package, but what happens if the company does not have that item in stock or something went wrong with the shipment company they used, resulting in a delay in the customers package?

It is always best to contact the customer if a delay on their package is expected as this will at least let them know that their package will be delivered a bit later than usual but most people will understand given their circumstances. Suppose the company has no idea of the delay from the shipping company due to so many other orders needed to be taken care of and that customer is never notified of the delay, you can expect a very upset customer who might call the company to complain or sometimes even screaming at the customer rep who answers the phone.

I believe the most a customer should wait on a package should not exceed 5 business days since this is the time that most people consider to be a standard delivery time. Anything after 5 days, the customer should at least get a call or an email letting them know of the delay with an apology as well.

Most people would have to agree when it comes to the poor customer service and high fees from Paypal. I used Paypal in the past without much issue except for when it came to disputes from customers.

A customer receives an item, doesn’t like it or finds an issue with the item, decides to file a claim through Paypal, rather than just contact the seller to get help on the item their purchased. Paypal will let the seller know they have an open dispute awaiting your response to the claim, at the same time, while the claim is opened, Paypal will hold the funds to that transaction until the case is closed in your favor.

You decide you no longer want to use Paypal as your payment method and start looking for alternatives to Paypal. The only problem is, with eBay owning Paypal, they pretty much force you to use only Paypal.

Recently, eBay has announced that sellers can now use their own Merchant Account to collect payments from buyers with a credit card , rather han being locked into using Paypal. This is a very good opportunity to not use Paypal and find a more better company who will provide better customer service who handles chargebacks and disputes much more better than Paypal.

Right now, the Alternatives to Paypal are:

Moneybookers - Similar to paypal, customer needs to sign up prior to sending their payments in.

Paymate – another merchant account that allows buyers to pay using their credit card directly with the upside of not having to sign up for an account.

eOnline Data - an eBay approved merchant account that collects direct credit card payments.

Other Merchant Processors - First Data , Paymentech (Chase Bank) , Nova Merchant & Global Payments

These are some of the other ways to collect money from buyers on eBay than being stuck with using Paypal and their horrible customer service.

If you know of any other merchant accounts accepted by eBay, please feel free to post it in your comments.

This is a followup to part 1 of the eBay suspended post.

Now that you have an idea of how to get back on eBay in stealth mode, we will now discuss how to get passed the Paypal security radar as well.

First thing you will need to do is sign up a new paypal account using your new bank account, new business name and new telephone. The name you will be using will be the same as your eBay information (business name that sounds like a persons name – ex. Washington Flowers)

You will be need to confirm your credit card as well, so don’t be afraid, we are only going to be using the new information like bank account, dba name, etc.. from Part 1.

Now, you will have the ability to use paypal as your payment method for your eBay orders. At some point, when you get to a certain amount of funds going in and out of your paypal account, paypal will need to do a check on your business name and info just to make sure your business info matches up and you are who you say you are.

They will also limit your ability to withdraw more than $500 monthly until you supply them with your social security number.

Now, this is the part where we will have to be very careful, you are not going to give them your real social security, otherwise all of this work will go down the drain , and they will find out who you are.

You must go to the IRS website, and you will need to register your dba to obtain a valid EIN number or tax id number for your new business. Once you get this, you will need to include your business dba into the database of Dun & Bradstreet, which is what Paypal uses to determine if your business information is valid and exist.

The cost to include your business dba information into the database, will probably cost around $300, but it is worth it once you start making the sales again on eBay.

Once paypal ask you for your social security, you are going to provide them your EIN or Tax ID you obtained from the IRS website and this will be your social security for your business. If you do everything the correct way, you will now have a new Paypal account with a new eBay account and you are on your way back to selling.

Please note, once you begin selling , its highly recommended you start off very slow, since eBay will be watching your new account as it grows, so don’t sell high priced items, you will want to start selling small low priced items. You may also want to buy things from other eBay users to make it seem like you are on ebay as a newcomer and not a previous suspended user.

Please share your experiences with getting back on eBay, let me any feedback you have.

I was one of the unfortunate sellers on eBay to get suspended back in 2008, without any warning, just woke up one morning to check my email and noticed a ” Seller Account Suspended” email from eBay.

When I received this eBay suspended email, I freaked out because I already had workers, products, and more investments on my eBay seller account and saw it all vanish in the blink of an eye.

I recently discovered ways to get back on eBay after I was suspended, and let me tell you, it was back to business as usual. Just because eBay suspends / bans your account, doesn’t mean its over, I’ll be damn if everything I worked hard for years, suddenly collapses just like that.

Here are the things you must know and follow in order to get back on eBay again without being re-suspended again for being associated with a suspended older sellers account:

eBay is not stupid, they are actually have some of the most advance techniques in finding suspended users trying to sell again. What most people do not know about eBay is that every email they send you whether its an update on their services, upgrades, or any type of email from eBay will have small cookies or bugs, that will be placed onto your computer the moment you open the email. These bugs will track your entire computer and later compared in their database for recent suspended users and match then catch you if you are not careful.

#1 – It is highly recommended you do a complete format on your computer (this will erase everything that is on your computer so backup everything first)

#2 – You need a new phone number, best bet is to purchase a prepaid card with minutes in order to have a way for ebay to verify you once you register.

#3 – You will need a new identity in order to open up a new sellers account. You ill either need to ask a friend or family member to use their name and address to use for the new eBay account. If this is impossible for you, don’t worry, there is a way around this.

You will need to go into your local area register a new DBA (Doing Business As) with your local country clerk office. The new business name you will be registering can be anything, but I highly recommend you using something that sounds like a first and last name and a business name at the same time (ex. Washington Flowers).

This will be useful so when you sign up a new eBay Sellers account, you can use the first name and last name that you registered the new business (ex. First name –> Washington | Last Name—> Flowers). This is why your new DBA name you will be registering will have to sound like a business name and a persons name, this way the clerk will not think you are registering someone else name on your business, since the person opening the DBA will have to be the owner.

#4 – You will need a new address , as long as it has nothing to do with your old address on your suspended account. To do this, you will need to go to a UPS store and rent a mailbox which would usually cost somewhere from $30 – $60 per month but this will be your new location for the sellers account.

Once the mailbox has been registered in your name (name can be anything, it doesn’t matter right now) then they will give you a key for the mailbox and that mailbox will be assigned a number. You now have an official address for your new eBay seller account, which is the address of the ups store + the number they assigned for your mailbox (ex. 5563 albany street #43).

#5- By now you should have a DBA registered business name, (sounding like a first and last name) , and a new address for your eBay sellers account. Now you need a Business Bank Account under the new DBA name and the UPS Mailbox connected to this bank account.

I recommend TD if its in your area, as they are the only bank that will give you a new debit card the same day you open the account. The business bank account will be registered under your name and also the new DBA name you previously obtained ( the one sounding like a persons name). The bank card will now have your UPS Mailbox address with your real name and your DBA business name on the card as well, either name will be fine when using the card for purchases.

#6 – Now you should have a DBA name, UPS Mailbox address, and a new Business Checking account with your new address and DBA name on the debit car and a computer that has been formatted completely.

Now the last part, you need is a new IP address. Remember, your internet used the last time you logged onto ebay with your suspended sellers account has been saved in eBay’s database. You will nee to obtain a new IP adress to avoid getting caught. If you have DSL, this is very easy, as most DSL boxes are dynamic, meaning the IP adress is always changing.

First you need to go here to this webste – http://www.whatismyip.com and write down the IP address you see, which is your current IP address. Then unplug your DSL and wait 30 seconds and plug in again, you should have a new ip address for your modem. Visit that website again http://www.whatismyip.com/ and check if that IP address sis different, if so then you are successful.

For dialup users, every time you connect to the internet, your ip will always be different so no worrying about anything if you use dialup.

For cable modem users, your best bet is to either get a new modem, or purchase a new router which w ill assign you a new mac number and a new IP address for your internet.

#7 – Now register an eBay account very carefully with a new email address, (Gmail is preferred, as long as its not your old email or even comes close to it). You will need to provide your first and last name which will be the DBA you registered with. Your UPS Mail box will be the address you are going to register your sellers account with and your telephone will be the new telephone number you previously received.

Once your new account is all setup and ready to go, please don’t go crazy and start listing expensive items right away, as you will be watched at least the first month you start selling so start slow and small, eBay will be watching you carefully.

Stay tuned for Part 2 , in which we will discuss how to get around the PayPal / Social Security problem.

If you are looking to get away from evil eBay and their ridiculous policies & fees, I have some alternatives you can try out for your niche. I’ve been in your shoes before and I have found these alternate sites to help me move my electronics .

Although they do not have the type of traffic eBay has, but if you combine them all into 1 , then you will have something that is even better than selling on eBay itself and you are not putting all of your eggs into 1 basket.

#4 – Pricegrabber.com

I will vote this as the #4 eBay alternative . You can sign up free with them and create your own storefront. Their main website is a shopping comparison site, where a specific product is compared by price from several other websites along with your storefront as well. There is no listing fees , only a fee once an item sells. They accept paypal, money orders, credit cards and google checkout as your payment option for customers. The traffic is ok, you may sell a few things a day, but no where as high as eBay traffic.

#3- Ubid.com

uBid.com would be my #3 alternate to eBay, but you will need to provide a bit more details about yourself upon opening an account. It’s worth it and you’ll have your own account manager from the category you are selling in. Mine happens to have AIM (Aol Messenger) so I can always ask any questions about anything and he usually is fast to answer and help me out.

They also have a very good customer support line to answer any questions you may have. All payments are usually by Check in the mail every 14 days, and all payments from customers are all verified by Ubid, so there is no worrying about any scam customers. I have been selling with them for 2 years now and I have no regrets about it.

My products move fairly well, and I often ask my account manager to place my products on the featured top of the category for free as long as the duration of the listing is not more than 1 week. No listing fees, only fees when something sells.

#2 – Amazon.com

Amazon.com is eBays biggest rival. This is my #2 alternative to eBay. I’ve had a sellers account with Amazon and sold alot of products at a very nice rate. I remember around valentines day, I had some mp4 players listed on their website, and I had sold them like hotcakes. I sold them more faster than I had sold them over at eBay. There are no listing fees but there is a pretty high final fee when something is purchased. Depending on your category, the final fees can be as high as 15% of the total.

Their payment system is pretty decent, since they don’t force you to accept paypal. They don’t even allow paypal, but only check by mail or Wire transfer. I personally used the Wire Transfer method and often received my funds within 14 days. The only downside is they are very strict when it comes to feedback from customers.

I stopped using amazon for a while so my feedback percentage started to drop as a month passed without selling. Since I had 2 negative feedbacks, this made my percentage drop below 80%, which forced Amazon to terminate my account.

#1- eCommerce Website

I will have to vote “Ecommerce Website” as the #1 eBay Alternative. There is nothing like having your own ecommerce website to sell your items at. You have complete freedom, control an stability over your business, and never have to answer to anyone. Amazon and eBay are the giants today in the market place, but they also have their own rules and guidelines to follow. If you break any of them, you are risking your business and can easily have your business shut down overnight. By having your own website, you are in the driver seat ready to expand your business.

All it takes is a domain name and a hosting plan. These are really cheap, as a domain can cost $7.50 per year at GoDaddy

You can start with a shared hosting plan from $4.25 per month at GoDaddy.com!
. Once you have these 2 things, all you will need is a shopping cart software to list your products. A good one and free is Zencart.

After this you might already have a paypal account which most shopping carts will already have built into their system to use. You may also consider getting a merchant account to accept direct credit card payments for those who don’t have or don’t like to use Paypal as a payment method. I recommend Authorize.net as your merchant account, as I used them for the entire lifespan of my ecommerce business and they are the best I have tried yet.

Remember to never leave yourself dependant from any website that allows you to sell your products, as you will always have someone over you that runs the show.

There are many powersellers out there that have been shown the door by eBay. I for one am one of them, and I would like to tell you that this isnt the end of your buisness.

If you are worried because eBay has raised their fees, favoring the buyers, influencing negative feedbacks, and you are afraid to loose your account, I suggest you look to an alternative. eBay has been bullying alot of sellers and laughing right in their faces.

After my suspension last year, I vowed to never sell on eBay again, or even try to get my account back at all. I nearly ran my entire business on eBay, and had my own workers with a decent salary each week. If it weren’t for my own website, I would have not landed on my feet once eBay kicked me out.

I highly recommend you open up a website of your own, purchase a domain name, which can be around $7-$9 per year, and get a decent place to host your site, (HostMonster.com is a good one).

The only thing that might be difficult at first is the marketing. If you don’t have any marketing experience, then you should definitely start off with google adwords, and yahoo search marketing. Once your site is setup to receive payments and the trafic starts flowing, you wont have to worry if eBay will fire you, or about raising fees, because having your own website, will put you in full control of your business.

What do you think about it?

I’m going to explain how I made $150,000 in 1 month. First of all, I’ve heard so many people doubt about making money on the Internet. I proved them wrong when I started selling on eBay back in 2005.

Then I heard many other people tell me that eBay is just a hobby and a place to move unwanted items and things you just want to get rid of.

I also proved them wrong when I built my business on top of eBay and made a living on it. Not too long ago, I’ve seen websites and ads claiming to help you make over $50,000 in 1 month. Well, at first I was just like the typical person who looked at this from the “yeah right” perspective. But it wasn’t until a few months ago, I once again proved it to be true, but this time i was to my own self.

It was last Christmas holiday where my life would change and never be the same again. I was selling electronics on my website , mostly mp3 players and cell phones, and was doing pretty well until after October where my sales exploded. Keep in mind, I only sold on my own website, since I was banned from eBay a few months before that time. I sold “iPod Clone MP3 Players” that resembled the 4th Generation iPod. They looked very identical to the original , expect a for the software in general.

Well, between this and popular cell phones, I managed to accomplished close to 45k in the month of October. By November, the sales started picking up, as I got more aggressive in my Google Adwords compaign and Yahoo Search Marketing. I decided to take a huge risk due to the potential of the holiday sales, I decided to make an iPod campaign on Google Adwords, and direct all of the traffic to my page where I had “iPod Clone” mp3 players in all colors and nearly 1/2 the price of the original iPod Nano. Basically, people who were searching for an authentic iPod Nano, were finding my page full of the knockoff ipods or iPod clones I was selling very cheap. I was profiting an average of $40 per unit sold, and during the holiday season, people were usually buying in quantities.

I started this campaign the day before thanksgiving, so I took the next day off to celebrate thanks giving with my family. The very next morning, I woke up and as usual I logged into my website and saw something I would have never imagined. It was around 10am, and I had already grossed more than 3K in sales and the numbers continued to climb. I opened up my outlook express to check my emails, and my inbox had over 700 emails that were a mixture of customer questions and mostly order confirmation receipts from my website.

I did not know what to do or how to react, as I wasnt prepared for this. About 2 hours later my website had reached $5,000 in sales, while 85% of the products being sold were the iPod Knockoffs on my website from people who wre searching for iPod Nano. I started to get a bit scared becuase of the amount of orders I was getting from a product I was marketing, that was not the real thing even though I listed it as a generic brand. Since I was too lazy to take pictures of my iPod clones, I decided to just copy and paste the original iPod pictures off of Apple.com and use them for my iPod clones.

By the end of that day, I reached a whooping $8,000 in sales, the all time record I had ever reached at the time. The next day was worst, as I reached $12,000 and every day it continued to grow. By the begining of december, is when it got really crazy, as I would make $14K – $18K in sales for that day. On December 15h, 2008, I beleive it was Cyber Monday, I did an all time record of $31,000 in sales for that 1 day.

Again I was only selling MP3 iPod Clones and cell phones. By the end of December, I had counted all of my gross , deductions and came up with the final profit. I had reached close to $150,000 for the month of December 2008.

I proved everyone wrong who said you cannot make money online, especially those who had laughed at me becuase I sold on eBay. Now I’m sitting here writing about it, ad I really hope this story will influence people to never give up no matter how tough it gets. My own experience has convinced me that anything is possible, and to never listen to people with a negative mind. Had I have listened to those people, I would not be sitting here writing about it.

Does anyone have any similiar experiences selling during the holidays, I’d love here your comments……

At 1 time in my life, I used to sell on eBay and only on eBay for many years.

It wasn’t until 1 day when I woke up and found my account suspended.

I can’t remember the reason for it but all I know is, I was freaking out that whole day and did not know what will happened to me as far as income.

They tell you that you have the option to appeal the decision, but this will ultimately take at least 2 weeks for them to unsuspend your account back to normal.

I was really nervous that day and wondered what will I do for the next 2 weeks to bring in some income, after all , we all have bills to pay and need food to eat. Well, while I faxed over my appeal sheet over to eBay requesting to un-suspend my account, I started to search online for help. I then spoke with a friend of mine, who just so happens to do web development and build websites for a living.

I spoke to him about my problem, and he told me I should know better than to use eBay as my only source to sell online. He offered to build me my own website and told me I would need to stay away from eBay. The problem was, eBay was addictive at the time and I just couldn’t imagine myself without using eBay to move my products since I was doing really good at the time.

I decided to pay for the website and get myself a logo to go with the website. After 2 weeks, my website was ready and my eBay account had been lifted off of suspension. I was soooo happy when I got that email from eBay telling me congratulations, my account has been restored. I quickly started to post all of my auctions back on eBay and started selling again.

This time, as I sold on eBay, I started listing products on my website and quickly filled up the store with everything I had in stock. Now, another issue I had was, I never have had marketing experience so I did not know where to go and how to attract visitors to my new website. In addition, my website url was no where on google search at all. I asked around, read blogs, ready books, and decided to start using Shopping Comparion websites to promote my website.

I continued selling on eBay but with caution since I learned that they will quickly suspend you for any reason that they feel is against their policies. They won’t even send you an email with a warning, just an email with a suspension notice, now how fair is that? By this time, I already had more than 15,000 feedbacks and was paying roughly around $3,000 – $3,500 a month in eBay fees. I thought I was invincible and eBay will have my back if anything goes bad again.

As my website started to take off, I learned more and more ways of getting traffic to my website, although I was always more focused on eBay selling at the time. I would spend 80% of my time on eBay and 20% on my website. At least 90% of my sales came through eBay and the rest, on my website. My main goal was to shift flip that percentage over to my website and less on eBay as I really wanted to become independent of eBay.

As the christmas holidays came , I started focusing even more on eBay than my website, due to the fact I was selling so much and fast on eBay at the time. The holidays kept my so busy on eBay that I completely ignored my website and stopped marketing on my website and devoted all of my time to eBay.

After the holidays, I decided to open an Amazon sellers account and started to sell on their website as well as eBay. I found amazon to be a bit more better than eBay in terms of service and the fact that they don’t charge you fees to list an item, but their fees were high once an item sold. Another great thing is that you don’t have to use paypal with Amazon. The bad thing is, you have to wait every 2 weeks to get a deposit into your bank account.

As time went by, eventually I got a few negative reviews in my Amazon account and Amazon quickly terminated my account with no chance of every selling again with them. This was as harsh as eBay because at least with eBay, they give you a chance to appeal and get reinstated again, while on Amazon, once you are gone, you are completely gone.

By August 2008, I really felt the reality of everything when eBay had suspended my account per their new policies at this time and this time they told me I may not be able to get reinstated. This had happened in the summer where sales were already slow , so I was once again worried how I would get money . The main thing that really disturbed me was the fact that I had accumulated over 18K feedbacks and was paying over $10,000 in eBay fees at this time, they still went and permanently suspended my account. I was very disappointed with eBay and realized that all they care about is their company and not the sellers who have built their company from the beggining.

I was grateful I had my website to fall back on, so I quickly devoted 100% of my time and energy to marketing and continue sleling my products on my own website. After 2 months, I saw the sales increased, the money flowing in even faster and the return rate on customers were also increasing as well. I was so happy ebay had suspended me, which forced me to dedicated to my own site. I learned google adwords, yahoo search marketing, shopping comparison websites, and other method of driving traffic to my own site. The best part was that I knew I would not have to worry about waking up in the morning only to find me shut down.

I had full control of my business and and I had so much potential to grow. With eBay, you can always sell more things, and get easy traffic, but you are always under eBay and there is always the possibility of getting suspended or shut down.

In conclusion, selling on eBay is the same as working for eBay. You wont have all of the opportunities to grow, and you will always have to go by their rules, if not , then they will fire you. I admit, eBay is a great way to start your business, but it should not be your main source for selling online. Please take my advice, I’ve been through hell with eBay and I dont want you to go through what I’ve been through. Start your own website, make it your primary source for opporating your buisness online, and then use eBay, Amazon, etc… as your side sources, or extra sources.

I’m a former eBay power seller , sold on eBay for 3 years and I’ve now seen the dark side of eBay. eBay has been known to be one of the most dominant shopping / auction sites on the Internet today.

When I first started selling on eBay, it was back in 2005, where me and my wife worked together to pack and ship out orders on a daily basis mon -fridays. We started off selling Pirated DVD’s from china, although at the time whenever knew anything about china and pirated movies or anything from china being counterfeit.

It all started nicely, as people would buy our DVD’s , and leave a positive feedback, which encouraged us to sell more. We then started to receive numerous complaints from angry buyers requesting their money back due to the DVD’s not being authentic. This eventually moved us into selling MP3 players from china, which had no brand names (generic) and thus we could not get into trouble. By Sept 2006, we were at our peak time where people were shopping for Christmas, and our sales exploded from sept – dec in 2006.

We have grossed $330,000 for the full year of 2006 according to our accountant. Profits were somewhat around 20-30% which expanded our inventory and allowed me to leave my job , which at the time was working downtown Manhattan at an office job. We hired 2 new people to help with packing, shipping and other duties, while my wife continued to work at her job, bringing in extra money.

Well, this year, 2008 , we have seen so many changes on eBay since the new CEO , John Donahue President of eBay. Fees increased, listings were less controlled by the seller, and of course, the infamous Feedback change back in June 2008.

We saw the effectiveness in the new feedback changes when our 100% powerseller account was quickly dropped to a 94% due to all of the recent neutral feedbacks buyers have left for us in the past, which was now counted towards the feedback system as a negative. Our account started to fall, as people would leave negative feedbacks, as we were selling refurbished items, and some people just weren’t happy with their purchase, not even contacting us first, but would rather jump onto the bad feedback wagon, while eBay simply encouraged buyers to be as honest as possible and pretty much beg buyers to left negative feedbacks towards the seller.

Around August 2008, we received an email from eBay informing us our account is on hold, and will not be able to sell due to buyer satisfaction policy, which of course is a new policy from eBay regarding if a seller maintains more than 5% of negative feedbacks within a 1 month period, their account will be restricted and placed on hold for review of up to 30 days. From this 30 days period we were not allowed to sell on eBay, but still had to deal with previous customer’s issues and questions until eBay would decide our fate.

This was the final straw for us as eBay was clearly degrading its sellers and quickly pushing away the higher and good sellers into other channels of selling. Luckily, we had purchased an ecommerce shopping cart a few months before the new eBay buyer satisfaction policy came into play. We had opened a new website, selling new mp3 players, cell phones, and other electronics we could obtain from reliable vendors. We just got an email, last Friday , 10/10/08 , stating that we are suspended indefinitely on eBay and would not have any chance of appealing their decision.

I have to say, I am very relieved we are no longer part of the eBay community, but rather part of our own community. We have done really well on our website, using channels like Google, yahoo , msn, pricergabber etc.. to promote our business store.

The best part about it, we run the show, not eBay, and there are no huge monthly bills or invoices that will hit us at the beginning of each month again, as eBay’s invoices were from $5k -$9k /month in fees. We were approaching titanium status right before eBay held our account because of the new policy. Nearly 1/4 of eBay’s top sellers have moved elsewhere because of the high fees, unacceptable changes, and eBay’s lack of appreciation for us sellers.

We will enjoy watching eBay go down for all of these bad choices and changes that have been made this year.
